Welcome to Abbi Bradford Counselling & Psychotherapy

Listening understanding support

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Abbi Bradford Counselling. I am a BACP registered counsellor & psychotherapist providing both short- and long-term therapy to adults in Tunbridge Wells and online.

My Counselling Style

I am a warm and empathic counsellor and psychotherapist offering online and face to face counselling in Tunbridge Wells, Kent

I use a variety of approaches to offer a bespoke style of counselling to suit you. I work with issues such as anxiety, depression and self-esteem, with my specific areas of interest being family issues, bereavement and autism. I help my clients to make sense of their situation and their own unique response to it, looking at how this new-found awareness can bring about change.

My integrative style draws on elements of person-centred theory, psychodynamic, cognitive and existential, in addition to transactional analysis. I provide a non-judgemental place where you can feel safe, validated and understood, building a relationship with you which will inform the work itself.

As your counsellor & psychotherapist I won't give you advice, but I can help you to find your own answers and empower you to trust your innate capabilities. My role is to gently encourage you to explore new possibilities: to question patterns of behaviour, assumptions and defences; to help get to the bottom of what may be holding you back, and enable you to find a way forward.

1 . The first step

Please get in touch by filling out my enquiry form, to give me an idea of what brings you to counselling at this time, and what form of counselling would suit you best (either face to face at my Tunbridge Wells Practice or online) .  You can give me as much or as little information as you feel comfortable with.  Your enquiry and personal information is dealt with sensitively and securely and treated as confidential.

2 . A time that suits

Next I'll get in touch to arrange a day and time for our first session and send you a contact details form for you to fill out and return.

Your first session will be free of charge so that you can make sure I am the right therapist for you before committing to further sessions.

If you would prefer to have an informal chat with me before booking a session I can offer a free 20 minute ‘getting to know me’ phone call.

3 . Your first session

At your first session I will complete a more in-depth assessment with you, to give me an overview of your situation and put me in the picture about your existing support network.

We’ll then take some time go through the practicalities of the therapy together and discussing our mutual expectations, which will be laid out in a therapeutic contact.  This will lay the foundations for your counselling sessions.

About me

I have a background in the arts and I also worked for the NHS for many years, so have a keen interest in all aspects of health and wellbeing.

I retrained to become a counsellor during the Covid 19 pandemic, when a redundancy enabled me to re-evaluate what really mattered to me. I completed my counselling training at the NHS-affiliated Inter-Psyche Training Institute for Counselling and Psychotherapy studies in Dartford, working as a volunteer counsellor at Mid Kent Mind and Sevenoaks Counselling Service as part of my studies.

I now run my own private practice, alongside working as a bank counsellor at a local hospice, offering bereavement and pre-bereavement support to patients and their families.

  • TA101 (Transactional Analysis): Wealden Psychology Institute

Fees & Availability

My counselling sessions are held in person at my practice in Tunbridge Wells or online (via Google Meet), and are offered on a 1:1 basis.

Sessions last 50 minutes and I charge £45 for daytime appointments (up until 5pm) and £50 for evening appointments. Your first session with me is an initial assessment, and this is offered free of charge.

Counselling sessions are held weekly at the same day and time. I offer open-ended therapy, so there is no limit to the number of sessions I offer, but I tend to work in 6 week 'blocks' which enables me to review regularly to make sure that the counselling is giving you what you need, and is going in the right direction for you.

I offer sessions from 9am until 8pm, Monday to Friday. Please get in touch to discuss availability.

Location & Accessibility

I see my clients at The Practice Rooms in Tunbridge Wells, a peaceful therapy space situated in the High Street in the historic heart of the town. The Practice Rooms are just a few minutes walk from Tunbridge Wells Railway station and there are several public carparks nearby.

Please note that my therapy room is on the second floor of the Practice Rooms and unfortunately there is no lift access due to the historic nature of the building.

My practice is neurodivergence-affirming and I welcome autistic clients. I offer a supportive and understanding person-centred environment and can make adjustments according to sensory needs and communication preferences.
